My 2020-2021 AP 2D Art Portfolio begins with distorted color, moving to distortion of certain facial features, and then toward more extreme multiple-face distortion. The use of distortion suggests a gradual loss of a proper grasp on reality. In deforming realism, there arises a sense of misshapen perception and identity. My fascination with the incomprehensibility of the universe and how it exists within us drives my interest in distorted perception. With my portraits, I aim to stir in my viewers a sense of ambiguous consciousness and strong mood. My subjects' portrayals are unique to my vision of nature’s vastness and uncertainty manifested through the human form.
